This is an image of an air bubble injected into water from a 1 mm diameter orifice at a rate of 100 ml/min. This image is captured prior to the bubbles departure from the orifice. Heat transfer in the nanochannel is simulated using molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo methods; the research has been conducted by Nidea, Frijns, van Steenhoven and Markvoort (http://w3.wtb.tue.nl/fileadmin/wtb/wtb_energytechnology/poster_Silvia.pdf). This image shows the temperature field behind a heated cylinder, measured using Laser Induced Fluorescence (LIF). The flow has a Reynolds number of 130 and a Richardson number of 1.5.
